Commission Me for Custom Artwork!

"Celestial Journey: Celestial Sojourn, Joyous with You”, May 2025, Abstract Commission, Acrylics, Glitter, & Found Materials with Epoxy Resin varnish coat. Currently residing in Denver, CO, home.

Custom Artwork (Not Including Abstract)

Though I specialize in creating custom abstract paintings, I also create custom artwork related to other topics and requests. These include customer's favorite flowers, plants, personal items, or places as well as engagement and birthday gifts and items related to weddings, including paintings and drawings of important items or places related to that special day. For example, I constructed for a wedding a custom "map" of each special place in their home city that the bride and groom remembered fondly. The map was adorned by mini drawings of each statue, park, building, or venue they loved and wanted their guests to remember too. Another example is that I painted a beautiful pink orchid for an engagement gift for a bride that loved orchids. The process for commissioning a custom piece is very similar to the process for abstracts, so please read ahead and feel free to send me an email via my contact page with your ideas or questions.

Abstract Paintings

Ever see a gorgeous abstract painting in a hotel or office hallway and think - wow! I could use one of those in my house too! Well - You've arrived at the right place! I specialize in large scale abstracts at varying sizes to fit that tall wall in your living room or a blank wall in your bedroom. Sizes, mediums, materials, varnishes, and prices vary per piece! It's a completely customizable process so let's get started on how to do it!

How to Request a Commission

1) REFERENCE PHOTOS/SUBJECT/STYLE: Some folks see a picture online or a painting in a shop and provide those to me as references of "what they'd generally like" in their abstract custom work from me. Feel free to do the same! I am, however, excited to always create something from scratch based on other factors like a color scheme or a style or a general feeling from a place or time in your life. If the ocean makes you calm and happy, I can create an abstract painting that resembles an ocean or a feature/feeling of an ocean that you prefer (think: waves, bubbles, fish, seaweed, sparkling reflection, etc). If you love warm colors flowing, I design a piece that shows those elements and helps evoke that warmth and flow you're seeking.

Once we're on the same page with what you're seeking, I create mini mockup paintings for you to choose that will be the basis for the larger piece. These are quick mockups to get a sense of style, color, composition, and detail. See below for an example of these mockup example.

2) SIZING: It's up to you for what your custom abstract is sized. Most pieces I've painted thus far are between 2x3' and 3x6' but I'm open to creating pieces as small as 5x7" if you're looking for something that size for a desk or wall spot! First step is to measure the wall on which you're envisioning the piece living and then think about whether the final piece will be framed. The piece below is 30x40" and the canvas is 2" deep.

3) MEDIUM: While I've painted all of my abstract paintings with Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylic Paint (or similar brand/type) thus far (with the occasional added secondary medium like glitter, shiny paper, or flour), I am open to designing a piece that is a mix of paper, paint, found objects, photographs, etc. I'd like this piece to reflect exactly what you're looking for and for that we can get really creative with materials! I always find a way to add shiny paper packaging material that would otherwise end up in the waste basket. Why? Because "waste" is subjective and why not save beautiful paper and add it to a painting instead of throwing it out? I am a strong advocate of using as little as possible and reusing as much as possible in both my personal and artistic life and love the added flurry of sparkle that these found materials add to the piece. They really capture the light when varnished with gloss!
 4) VARNISH: Each painting receives a double coat of Gamvar gloss varnish to lock in the hues and textures of the paint. Varnishes protect the work from oil, grease, dust, dirty, hair, dir, and sun damage for many years after completion. Please note that varnish protection claims refer to paintings that remain indoors only. It is recommended to frame the artwork in glass to further protect it. See below for an action shot of me applying the gloss where you can see that glossy finish in the light!
5) TIMELINE: Now that you've defined your request, let's talk schedule! As a working artist, I complete custom artwork on an as-needed basis and thus my schedule for completion varies throughout the year. Most custom pieces take between 3 weeks and 3 months to complete. I charge a 25% surcharge for artwork requested with a <7 day turnaround time so please be mindful of your timeline.

6) PRICING: Pricing varies per custom artwork depending on size, medium, and timeline request. Additional costs incurred for packaging materials and special large boxes to ship the pieces. Shipping costs estimated at time of commission and confirmed during shipping process. All pieces are shipped via UPS.
