About The Artist

Hi, welcome!

My name is Rachel Joy Davis and I am a freelance professional mixed-media artist living and working in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I started drawing when I was very young and art soon became one of my favorite pastimes. I won several art-based competitions and quickly learned my art had both emotional and financial value. Though I completed anatomy drawing and photography classes at Moore College of Art and Maryland Institute College of Art in high school and printmaking, painting and etching courses in college, my style of portraiture and abstract painting are self taught and inspired.

I fell in love with several mediums in my 20s, including Faber-Castell colored pencils for deep smooth hues, Pigma Micron pens for crisp outlining and minute detailing, COPIC markers for quick bright coloring and Liquitex acrylic paints for rich hues and buildable textures. Over the years, I've broadened my media experience by trying new brands and new techniques. Currently, I specialize in illustration realism pet portraiture and large-scale abstract paintings as well as smaller detailed illustration-style drawings of plants, animals and linear abstract scenes.

I have exhibited and sold originals and their prints in art shows and at fundraisers and my work has been printed on greeting cards, wedding invitations, and business logos. My illustrations were featured in my college’s fashion magazine and my original large scale abstract paintings are hanging in the lobbies of office buildings and adorning the walls of many homes.
